It’s nearly showtime!

With less than a week until opening night things have started to ramp up.  The Events team were in the Cathedral at the back end of last week putting up the staging, followed closely on their heels by a number of the Superstar cast and crew who have painted the set…  I’m not going to publish any photographic spoilers just now, but suffice to say – it looks spectacular, and with 200 people covering the stage at times during the performance you’re really in for a memorable night if you’re coming to watch.

Some of the many cast/crew helping last Saturday – there were many, many more involved!

Undercoat done!

Watch this space after the show and I’ll publish what it looks like – I know you’ll love it.  As well as painting the stage, there’s been another massive amount of work going on with the set up of the lighting and sound equipment;  I know there’s something going on with ‘swiss army knife’ technology, but again, no spoilers here!

Tonight is the last rehearsal outside our venue, as tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday we have the 2 technical rehearsals in situ at the Cathedral.  Those of you who are familiar with productions will know they are really important.  They generally consist of fully testing out all of the technology being used in the performance (lighting, sound, automation, special effects etc. to diagnose and prevent mistakes from occurring during the actual performance. It also gives the design team the opportunity to see how their designs will impact each other (i.e. how the colour of a light might affect the look of a costume or the stage), and to make final changes.  Sometimes these rehearsals can go on for a considerable amount of time, to make sure the performance goes smoothly without any glitches.

Sound technology!

Saturday night then sees a full dress rehearsal – that’s the bit where the cast finally get to perform the whole show from start to finish, using staging and all the sound and lighting, but without an actual audience; thats when we’ll  know exactly how it will look on the night.

If all goes well, we may get a break on Sunday before we finally open with a live audience on Monday 22nd August with our first performance out of the nine scheduled.
